THIS IS SACRED TO ME
In 1975 Tom of Finland, groundbreaking illustrator of gay erotica, walked into a jewish owned printing house in LA desperate to find a publisher to take on his endeaver of publishing his first book after being refused multiple times that day. The store owner told him in hesitation stating he only published sacred books. Tom responded, This is Sacred to me.
This collection was born in this spirit. I took inspiration from the work of queer artists throughout history notably andy warhol, mel odom , mapplethorpe and of course Tom of Finland. The work that most inspired me were those that broke grounds for taking what was once taboo and putting a spotlight on the underground scenes gay men had been obliged to create in order to live in their authenticity.
